Many providers have asked EIM for information on HIPAA. Below is a list of web sites that provide resources on this subject. You may find them helpful in determining your compliance. EIM will not be advising providers regarding their compliance with HIPAA.
http://www.hhs.gov/ocr/hipaa/finalreg.html -The final Privacy Rule Text, including all modifications and clarification published on August 14, 2002. This is a condensed version (only 42 pages) that includes requirements only. If you want to understand the rationale and public comments into the rule you will need to access the 8 parts of the regulation published on the same web page.
http://www.hhs.gov/ocr/hipaa/privacy.html -newly published FQAs and guidance from OCR on the final Privacy Rule. Includes OCR expectations for incidental disclosures, minimum necessary, protecting medical/health records, and tracking disclosures for accounting purposes.
http://www.hhs.gov/ocr/hipaa/ -This page is where OCR, the enforcement agency, will publish all privacy rule official clarifications documents.
http://www.nhvship.org - NHVShip the local WEDI/SNIP affiliate web page contains a variety of information, forms, tools, and presentations on HIPAA transactions, privacy and proposed security rules.
The AMA website at http://www.ama-assn.org -provides information, tools, sample forms for use by health care providers.
http://snip.wedi.org -Click on Work Products and then select Privacy and Security White Papers. There are two white papers that provide useful guides to what policies and procedures a covered entity needs to develop for each rule as well as background information for each organization to develop appropriate policies and procedures.
